Nika, as we called her, came to me just at the right time, my "different ability" (I hate using the word "disability" ) had become worse, I'd been a few months without a dog so wanted to take on an older rescue dog, well! we wanted a nice quite bitch that was good with everything, what we ended up with was quite different. Her name was not the right one for her, so we soon changed it to Nikita, Nika for short, as this seemed to be very fitting for her, she was a big strong chunky black and tan german shepherd, supposed to be 4 years old but was much closer to 8, so we didn't know when she was born. Nika hated everyone and everything so had to be very closely watched all the time, especially when we had visitors, it took her at least 3 years to settle when people came in and not until Debbie came to live with us did she become a more sociable girl. The vet reckoned Nika was around 14 when she died, a good age for a shepherd, and she was ready to leave us. After recovering from numerous stokes, and other ailments, we knew she couldn't keep it up for much longer. When we saw the sadness in her eyes, the tiredness in her body and once she started to suffer from pain, we knew the time had come to say goodbye. She was a much loved dog and still very much missed, and along with Debbie and Indi, we won't be forgetting any of them. xox

I only wish I could get your photo's out of my old camera then everyone would see just how gorgeous you are, you were so full of hatred for so many things when you came to live with us, but then you became one of the most loving dogs ever. Sadly you never met Teenie while she was here but I hope that you are all together now. I can't believe my 4 girls have all gone in such a way, one each year, it's heartbreaking every time, even although the decisions had to be made, you were all at the stage off suffering too much, and when that happens, then it's up to us to be brave and do the right thing by you. I miss you all so much, and wish with all my heart that I could turn around right now, and see each of you sitting there, waiting for a treat, or lying snoring your heads off. I love you all. The stately German Shepherd-
Protective, bold and smart,
Looked into my eyes one day
And quickly stole my heart.

Courageous and endearing,
A favorite of its breed,
So proud and yet so loving,
A steadfast friend indeed.

Caring disposition,
Faithful to the core-
If you have a Shepherd’s love,
You cannot want for more.

A DOGGIE PRAYER ♥♥

So do not grieve for me, my friend, as I am with my kind.
My collar is a rainbow's hue
My leash is a shooting star
My boundaries are the milky way, where I sparkle from afar. ♥♥
There are no pens or kennels here, for I am not confined,
but free to roam God's heavens among my special kind. I nap the day on a snowy cloud and gentle breezes are rocking me; I dream the dreams of earthlings and how it used to be. ♥♥
The trees are full of liver treats and tennis balls abound, and milk bones line the walking ways just waiting to be found. There even is a ring set up, the grass all lush and green, and everyone who gaits around becomes the "Best Of Breed". ♥♥
For we're all winners in this
place, we have no faults
you see. And God passes
out the ribbons to each
one--even me. I drink from
waters laced with gold, my
world a beauty to behold.
And wise old dogs do form
my pride to amble at my
very side.♥♥
At night I sleep in an
angel's arms, her wings
protecting me, and
moonbeams dance about
us as stardust falls on
thee.♥♥
So when your life on earth
is spent and you reach
heaven's gate, have no
fear of loneliness, for here,
you know I wait. ♥♥
